You can see the connection between the movie O Brother Where Art Thou and The Odyssey by the characters, especially by the ones encountered by Pete, Everett, and Delmar. One encounter is a women washing her clothes in the river. Just like the sirens in The Odyssey she draws the boys in by her singing. Another character relating to The Odyssey is Big Dan. Having one eye you can connect him back to being a cyclops, also he is violent and attacks the crew. One last character that resembles someone from The Odyssey is the railroad homeless man. Just as Tiresias he is a blind fortune teller.
Also, some of the plot events connect back to the Odyssey. In the beginning they escape from jail. This resembles to when Odysseus escapes from Calypso and various other monsters. Also, both begin with an invocation to the Muse. Throughout the movie they are chased by the jail warden. As well in the Odyssey has Poseidon who causes trouble for Odysseus throughout his journey home. Overall there are many connections between the two and the Odyssey plays a big factor throughout O Brother Where Art Thou.
